The brake disc (rotor) is the cast-iron surface the pads clamp. Vented discs have an internal vane structure that pumps air between two friction faces to shed heat; solid discs are used where thermal load is lower, typically on the rear axle of lighter vehicles.
Symptoms that usually point to it on a vehicle like the JAC N-Series:
- Pulsing through the brake pedal and shimmy through the steering wheel as you slow from speed — thickness variation across the friction face.
- A pronounced lip at the outer edge of the disc, which you can catch with a fingernail: that lip is the original thickness and shows how much has worn away.
- Deep circular scoring, usually the result of running pads down to the backing plate.
Ordering this part
Specify outer diameter, thickness when new, height, the bolt-hole count and pitch-circle diameter, the centre bore, and whether the disc is vented or solid. Front and rear discs on the same vehicle are rarely the same part.
Fitment is confirmed from the VIN and from the number on the part being replaced, not from the model name alone: engine variant, trim, market specification and mid-life revisions all change part numbers within the same model year. Send the VIN, the model year, the transmission type, whether the vehicle is left- or right-hand drive, and a photograph of the old part showing any number printed on it.
