The oil filter traps combustion soot, wear metal and carbon before the oil reaches the bearings, cam journals and turbocharger. Two formats dominate: the spin-on canister, which contains its own media and sealing gasket, and the cartridge element, which drops into a fixed housing and is supplied with new O-rings.
Symptoms that usually point to it on a vehicle like the Great Wall Poer:
State whether the engine takes a spin-on or a cartridge filter. For spin-on, the thread size and gasket outside diameter are what determine fitment; for cartridge, the element inside diameter, outside diameter and height. Give the engine displacement and, where you have it, the engine code.
Fitment is confirmed from the VIN and from the number on the part being replaced, not from the model name alone: engine variant, trim, market specification and mid-life revisions all change part numbers within the same model year. Send the VIN, the model year, the transmission type, whether the vehicle is left- or right-hand drive, and a photograph of the old part showing any number printed on it.
